The Petroleum Engineering Department was established in 2008 as a natural response to the need for specialized cadres in petroleum engineering in oil plants and companies in the southern region. The department includes 12 faculty members on permanent staff and approximately 200 male and female students in their various academic stages. The Petroleum engineer in the department is qualified after receiving the full and background information required in oil and natural gas reservoir engineering, production engineering, drilling engineering, oil and natural gas transportation and storage engineering, in addition to oil economics, as well as the use of electronic computers in the fields of oil engineering and work on developing the discovered oil reservoirs and exploiting them in the best way that enables them from extracting the largest revenue from oil at the lowest cost.
