The College of Engineering at the University of Basra held an awareness seminar titled “Cancer: Prevention Methods and Fundamentals of Radiation Therapy” as part of its scientific and educational activities aimed at promoting health awareness among students and staff.

The seminar included a lecture by Dr. Hadeel Majid Ali, who discussed the concept of cancer, its main causes, and methods of prevention, emphasizing the role of early detection in reducing incidence rates and increasing the chances of recovery. She also reviewed the most prominent environmental and behavioral factors associated with increased incidence rates.

Physicist Ahmed Qasim Ali presented a lecture on the fundamentals of radiation therapy, explaining its mechanism of action, its types, and its importance in treating many cancerous conditions. He also addressed the scientific and technical aspects related to the safe and effective use of medical radiation.

The seminar witnessed a remarkable turnout and interaction from students, faculty, and staff, and concluded with an open discussion and Q&A session, emphasizing the importance of holding such awareness seminars that contribute to spreading health culture and enhancing community awareness.
