The College of Engineering at the University of Basra received Her Excellency the Dutch Ambassador to Iraq, Janet Alberda, and her accompanying delegation. The Ambassador was received by the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Mufid Turki Rashid, and the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmed Ghazi. The visit aims to develop future cooperation between the College of Engineering and Dutch universities.
On the sidelines of the visit, a scientific symposium was held on the climate challenges facing Basra, attended by the College of Engineering Council and a number of lecturers, in addition to graduate students in various departments in the College of Engineering. The meeting focused on the topic of urban sustainability, clean energy, water, and climate change, and how to benefit from them at the level of the city of Basra, and the mechanisms of implementation and overcoming the obstacles and difficulties facing them. The symposium included interventions by lecturers and students on the symposium's axes and the extent to which foreign expertise can be used in holding training courses for students and specialists to raise awareness regarding the topic of sustainability.
The Ambassador also visited a number of laboratories in the college's departments to see the reality of these laboratories.
