A book by a faculty member at the College of Engineering, University of Basra, titled "Smart Cities – Designing the Future of Urban Life: From Smart City 4.0 to Smart City 5.0," has been published.

This modern academic book, published in London by the British publishing house IntechOpen, is a significant and contemporary reference in the field of smart urban planning. It was edited and co-authored by Professor Dr. Amjad Zaki, an architect from the Department of Architecture, College of Engineering, University of Basra, in collaboration with an international editorial team of five co-editors from Karlstad University, Jönköping University, and Dalarna University in Sweden, as well as RMIT University in Australia. The book also includes a distinguished scholarly contribution in one of its chapters by two researchers from the Department of Architectural Engineering, University of Basra: Engineer Duha Abdul Karim and Engineer Zahraa Majid Mohammed.

This work moves beyond the traditional technological model of the Smart City 4.0 to present an advanced vision of the Smart City 5.0 concept as a human-centered urban model based on ethics, responsibility, and good governance.
