A master’s thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah discussed (Development of the shape remembered Cu-Zinc alloy by adding silver nanopowder)

The thesis presented by the student Zainab Salim Abdul Hassan dealt with the study and improvement of the remembrance of shape and mechanical properties such as the maximum tensile strength, elongation, and hardness after adding nano silver powder with different weight ratios to the copper-zinc-aluminum alloys that were prepared through the casting process. Several tests have been performed to evaluate the microstructure of the alloys such as optical microscopy, Scanning electron microscopy with an X-ray energy-dispersive spectrometer, X-ray diffraction analysis. As for the mechanical properties, they were studied after the procedure.

Mechanical tests such as tensile testing, micro-hardness testing, and post-form recovery testing thermal coefficients. The thesis aims to develop memory-shape alloys by adding silver nanopowder. The thesis concluded that adding nano-silver powder led to a softening of the particle size, and the microstructure study showed that adding Nano-Ag leads to the formation of a multi-vector martensite structure (M18R) after quenching in ice water, and raising the temperature of the heat of heat treatment leads to a decrease in the phase of a which leads to an improvement in the shape-memory properties. The mechanical properties were improved after adding silver nanopowder.
