College of Engineering organizes a scientific trip to the Ziggurat of Ur

Taking pride in the civilization of Mesopotamia (the oldest civilizations in the world) and considering that architecture is the mirror of civilization, the students of the Department of Architecture at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah accompanied by the head of the department, Dr. Hamid Hyab and the teachers to visit Zaggurat Ur, architectural landmark of the Mesopotamian civilization,

Its aim is to acquaint students with the architectural features of this ancient civilization, the design of the ziggurat, the building materials used, the architectural, construction and environmental details of the edifice. The archaeological buildings near the ziggurat were visited, such as (King Shulki Palace and the Temple of Dab Lal Mach) and other monuments located within the site.

The visit comes as a complement to the curricula in the history of architecture, and the students expressed their pleasure to visit these archaeological sites that cement the elements of Iraqi civilization in their minds and push them to inspire and simulate these elements in their future designs in a way that enhances the Iraqi architectural identity and belonging to this great heritage.
