A doctoral thesis at the University of Basrah discussing (a comparative study of methods for assessing the sensitivity of groundwater in the Al-Tayeb area)
a PhD thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah discussing (a comparative study of methods for assessing the sensitivity of groundwater in the Al-Tayeb area, Maysan governorate). The thesis submitted by the student, Taghreed Hamid Khalaf dealt with
a comparison of different methods for assessing the sensitivity of groundwater to pollution in order to provide the best options for local government and decision makers
The data required to create sensitivity maps for all models were obtained from geological maps, well records, pumping test results, field survey to take soil and groundwater samples and hydrological reports.
All parameters were analyzed and a weight and average was given for each parameter depending on its importance in relation to other parameters and the type of each model.
Thirty-five wells were tested to measure depth to groundwater, and the spatial distribution of recharge was estimated by wetspass.

Four models of vulnerability maps: DRASTIC, GOD, SINTACS and DRASTIC modified using GIS techniques were analyzed.
The thesis aims to test the best method for assessing the sensitivity of groundwater to pollution in the Al-Tayeb area.
The thesis concluded that the DRASTIC model had three categories, where the low vulnerability category occupied the largest percentage of the study area, while the other models GOD, SINTACS, and DRASTIC modified had four categories, where the medium weakness category occupied the majority of the study area. It also concluded that the modified DRASTIC method is the best technique and the most effective strategy that can be adopted and applied in Al-Tayeb area.
