A doctoral thesis at the University of Basrah discussing (modeling the flow and drift of tongues using fluid kinematics calculations)

I discussed a thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah (Modeling the flow and drift of tongues using fluid kinematics calculations / The thesis submitted by the student Heba Ali Abbas included laboratory experiments in a rectangular channel that was manufactured by the researcher, and it is made of iron. who is going through

After that, 350 experiments were carried out under conditions of calm flow and free of sediment load

A different number of elderly females (single, double and triple) were used for each of the five studied elderly shapes to show the effect of changing the number of elderly females on the drift process, as well as the distance between the females, in addition to the length of the same tooth for each form of the elderly females.

The thesis aims to study elderly females in order to employ them in changing the direction of the flow to be away from the banks to protect them from erosion, control flooding, improve navigation as well as reduce the cost of dredging rivers, since the presence of these elderly women will regulate and increase the transport of sediments through the section of the river in which the elderly females are located.

The thesis concluded that these shapes can be arranged according to the greatest drift depth from largest to smallest as follows (Figure I, shape L, shape V, shape S, shape C). The I-shape is about 55-84%, with the L-shape by about 51-76%, and with the V-shape by about 28-50%, so it can be said that C grooves cause erosion pits with minimum dimensions, especially the depth of the erosion pits.
