A scientific visit by students of the College of Engineering to the UNESCO work site

Based on the invitation from UNESCO, the Department of Architecture at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah made a scientific visit to the UNESCO work site in Nadran / Old Basra city. The visit comes within the framework of cooperation between the University of Basrah - College of Engineering and UNESCO for the purpose of preserving the architectural heritage of the city. During the visit of the students of the fifth stage of the morning and evening studies, accompanied by the head of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Hamed Hayab Samir, and the teaching staff of the fifth stage, they were briefed on the maintenance and restoration work of the heritage houses there. The UNESCO team also explained in detail the stages of work and the challenges and obstacles facing the progress of work. In addition to clarifying the problems that the houses suffer from and how to deal with materials and construction problems. It was agreed to repeat the visits in the future to keep up with the work that the organization is conducting in the region with the aim of informing the students on the field about the operations of preserving heritage areas and providing them with the required skills and experiences for the purpose of raising cultural awareness of the importance of architectural heritage and the need to preserve the architectural identity and historical heritage of the city.
