A master's thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah discussed detecting leaks in pipelines using artificial intelligence techniques
The thesis presented by the student Marwa Hussein Abd addressed the issue
There are three aspects. The first is the practical aspect. An experimental study was conducted in the Amara oil field after providing all the requirements for the pipeline network and a well to apply the smart ball to detect leaks inside the pipelines.
The second aspect is the theoretical aspect, as the COMSOL Multiphysics program was used to create a simulation that is completely identical to the practical experiment with the same dimensions, measurements, and operating conditions, and to use practical data in artificial intelligence techniques to reach the decision of the presence or absence of a leak.
The third aspect is a theoretical study of dimensions and measurements different from the experiment, but completely identical to the dimensions of the standard pipes found in our oil companies.
The thesis concluded with high accuracy in the results between practical and theoretical experience, and its efficiency was proven after conducting several different scenarios.
