The College of Engineering at the University of Basra organized an awareness seminar entitled “Cyber ​​Extortion and Methods of Prevention,” aimed at raising awareness among students and staff about the dangers of cybercrimes and ways to prevent them.

The seminar was presented by a select group of officers from the National Security Service, in addition to specialists from the Ministry of Interior’s Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency/Directorate of Technology and Information. They addressed the most common criminal methods in cyberspace, methods of exploitation and extortion, and the legal mechanisms for reporting.

The speakers also reviewed the most prominent preventative practices that contribute to protecting personal data and preventing account hacking, emphasizing the need to promote digital literacy among individuals and the importance of early reporting to minimize harm.

The seminar witnessed broad interaction from the attendees, including students and faculty members. Numerous questions and comments were raised, enriching the discussion and underscoring the importance of such programs aimed at enhancing digital security in society.
