Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Mufeed Turki Rashid, the Student Activities Division at the college, in cooperation with the Basra Chess Federation, organized the college championship on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Forty-three male and female students representing the various departments of the college participated.

Dr. Munir Abdul Jalil, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, stated that the aim of the championship was to cultivate a spirit of sportsmanship among students and encourage their participation in student activities, in addition to discovering outstanding young talents in the game of chess.

Dr. Nassar Ismail, Head of Student Activities, added that the championship, through the intense competition among the participants, revealed a number of new talents. He emphasized that the technical level demonstrated by the students exceeded expectations and showcased promising potential deserving of support and encouragement.
