The Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Mufeed Turki Rashid, accompanied by a delegation from the college, visited the headquarters of the General Company for Electricity Distribution in the South. They were received by the company's Director General, Engineer Nash'at Kadhim Al-Kanaan, to discuss prospects for joint scientific and engineering cooperation and to strengthen the partnership between the two sides in a way that serves both the academic and service sectors.

At the beginning of the visit, the Dean congratulated the Director General on assuming his duties at the company, wishing him success in leading this vital institution. He also emphasized the College of Engineering's commitment to expanding cooperation with state institutions to contribute to the development of engineering performance and support development projects.

The meeting included discussions on several important topics, most notably cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and artificial intelligence applications in the electricity sector, as well as coordinating the establishment of a high-voltage laboratory at the College of Engineering. This laboratory will enhance scientific research and practical training capabilities and serve students and researchers.

The two sides also discussed organizing training programs and specialized courses in occupational safety and electrical engineering, exchanging scientific and consulting expertise, and establishing joint mechanisms to improve the work environment and support applied projects that meet the needs of the electricity sector in the governorate.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of continued communication and coordination between the College of Engineering and the General Company for Electricity Distribution in the South, and working to translate the meeting's outcomes into joint programs and projects that contribute to the development of the electricity sector and enhance the university's role in serving the community and supporting sustainable development.
