The master's thesis of researcher Muslim Qasim Abdul-Ridha was discussed at the College of Engineering, University of Basrah (Department of Materials Engineering), under the supervision of Dr. Haider Mahdi Layeth, titled.. Investigation of the Effect of Crude Oil Sulphur Content and Submerged Arc Welding Parameters on Corrosion Behavior and Mechanical Properties of API 5L X60 Steels


‏This study investigates the effect of crude oil sulphur content and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) parameters on the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of API 5L X60 pipeline steel.  
‏Results showed that high-sulphur environments increased the corrosion rate by 8 times compared to low-sulphur environments and formed a non-protective scale that significantly reduced strength.  
‏Increasing welding speed to 31 mm/s reduced heat input and refined the microstructure, leading to improved corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.  
‏These findings provide a practical framework for optimizing SAW parameters to extend pipeline service life in sulphuric environments.
