The College of Engineering at the University of Basrah, represented by its Dean, Prof. Dr. Mufeed Turki Rasheed, participated in the first in-person meeting of the Committee of Deans of Engineering Colleges in Iraqi universities for the 2026–2027 academic year. Hosted by the College of Engineering at the University of Anbar, the meeting was attended by deans of engineering colleges from across Iraqi universities.
The meeting addressed several important academic and scientific matters. Key topics included determining the subjects and academic levels subject to the standardized assessment exam for the new academic year, and reviewing requests to establish new academic departments and postgraduate programs (Master’s and PhD). Additionally, the meeting covered the implementation mechanisms of the Bologna Process and the updating of curricula to align with scientific advancements and labor market requirements.
The agenda also included a review of academic and teaching staff at private colleges, as well as a discussion of official correspondence and requests regarding changes to academic titles—steps aimed at unifying perspectives and enhancing the quality of engineering education across Iraqi universities.
The participation of the University of Basrah’s College of Engineering reflects its commitment to strengthening academic communication and coordination with its counterparts at other Iraqi universities, exchanging scientific expertise and experiences, and contributing to the development of engineering education pathways that keep pace with scientific developments and meet labor market needs.
