In response to directives from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and following a call by Muqtada al-Sadr, the College of Engineering at the University of Basra held a peaceful protest on Thursday. The demonstration was organized to condemn the decision to ban the hijab in educational institutions in the Republic of Azerbaijan, to express solidarity with Muslim female students, and to reject any infringement upon their freedom to practice their religious observances.
The protest served to underscore the importance of respecting religious freedoms and a woman’s right to wear the hijab—principles that align with human rights and the freedom of belief.
In adherence to the guidelines governing the event—and to emphasize its peaceful nature and humanitarian objectives—only the Iraqi flag was displayed during the protest.
