New Book Published by a Faculty Member from the College of Engineering, University of Basrah, Titled "Towards Construction 6.0: Human-Centric AI in Architecture, Engineering and Construction

The international publishing house CRC Press (Taylor & Francis Group) has released a new book by Professor Amjad Zaki Khalil, a faculty member in the Department of Architecture at the College of Engineering, University of Basrah, titled "Towards Construction 6.0:
Human-Centric AI in Architecture, Engineering and Construction

The global architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is undergoing a profound transformation.
The central challenge is no longer simply how to design and construct buildings more efficiently, but rather: How
can artificial intelligence reshape the built environment to become more responsive to human needs, more
adaptable to climate change, and more sustainable for future generations?
Towards Construction 6.0: Human-Centric AI in Architecture, Engineering and Construction explores this
fundamental question by presenting a forward-looking scientific perspective on the convergence of human
intelligence, advanced technologies, and environmental sustainability. Construction 4.0 introduced digitalization,
automation, Building Information Modeling, and interconnected technologies to improve productivity, efficiency, and construction management. Construction 5.0 expanded this technological perspective by placing greater
emphasis on human–machine collaboration, sustainability, resilience, and ethical responsibility.
Construction 6.0, as an emerging research concept, explores a further evolution towards intelligent, adaptive, and
interconnected built environments, where artificial intelligence, digital twins, robotics, cyber-physical systems,
architectural creativity, and engineering expertise converge to address complex human and environmental
challenges.
This book's international scientific significance lies in its interdisciplinary approach. Rather than examining
emerging technologies in isolation, it explores their potential integration across the building lifecycle, from
architectural conception and construction to intelligent operation, management, and future adaptation. Its
relevance extends to pressing global challenges, including climate change, energy and resource efficiency,
construction productivity, urban resilience, workforce transformation, and the increasing demand for healthier,
safer, and more responsive built environments. The publication contributes to international scientific discourse by
advancing discussion of Construction 6.0 as an emerging conceptual framework and encouraging further
investigation into the relationship between technological intelligence, human values, and environmental
responsibility. Published by CRC Press, part of the internationally recognized Taylor & Francis Group, the book
offers a valuable interdisciplinary resource for researchers, architects, engineers, doctoral students, policymakers,
and construction industry professionals worldwide. Beyond examining technological possibilities, the publication
encourages critical scientific inquiry, international collaboration, and innovative approaches to the sustainable
transformation of the built environment. Its intellectual significance lies not merely in anticipating future
construction technologies, but in challenging a fundamental assumption: Is the ultimate objective to construct
more intelligent buildings, or to create more intelligent, humane, and sustainable environments?
The future of construction will not be defined solely by the intelligence of machines, but by humanity's ability to
direct that intelligence towards improving quality of life and protecting the planet.
