As part of the "Dialogue on Architecture" series, the Department of Architecture at the College of Engineering, University of Basrah, held its first discussion session on Monday, November 2, 2026, under the "Knowledge Dialogue" platform. The session featured the esteemed architect Muath Al-Alousi, who engaged in an intellectual and architectural discussion centered on the importance of preserving Iraqi architectural identity amidst the transformations currently shaping contemporary architecture.
The session included a showcase of the guest’s most notable architectural design projects, as well as his publications and writings—works that serve as a valuable contribution to architectural literature and a source of inspiration and knowledge for students throughout their academic and professional journeys.
The discussion encompassed a wealth of insights, experiences, and architectural expertise, underscoring that architecture is not merely the art of shaping and designing buildings; rather, it is a language that expresses humanity, society, and civilization, while embodying the identity and cultural distinctiveness of a place.
This session reflects the College of Engineering’s commitment to fostering intellectual dialogue and engaging with pioneering architectural experiences. By providing students with access to professional and intellectual expertise, the initiative aims to cultivate their architectural awareness and strengthen their connection to local identity and heritage.
