The College of Engineering, Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Basra held a scientific workshop specialized in drilling engineering, entitled (The phenomenon of torsion during drilling operations), presented by Haider Walid Al-Saffar, the consulting engineer at Halliburton Oil Services Company.

It was established as part of the scientific cooperation concluded between the Department of Petroleum Engineering and the international oil services company Halliburton on the use of a specialized oil program.

The workshop addressed many real problems in the Iraqi oil fields and their solutions through an oil program specialized in evaluating the erosion of well linings (Landmark-Casing Wear) granted by Halliburton Company to support the oil department, which contributes to the development of the department's curricula.
