A master’s thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah discussed (a numerical study on the effect of rotation on the mixed convection inside a channel with an open cavity containing a rotating cylinder).
A limited number of controlling volumes were used, the equations for mass, momentum and energy were solved and cases were studied for different angular velocities and different positions of the cylinder. The study criteria were represented by the effect of Reynolds number (150_50), Richardson number (10_0.1) The angular velocity of the cylinder and the position of the cylinder relative to the hot wall
The thesis aims at a numerical study of the effect of the angular velocity and the position of the cylinder on the process of heat transfer by mixed convection
The thesis concluded that the buoyancy effect becomes negligible for small values of Ri in the range Ri>1. The increase in the Nusselt number with Ri and with the increase in the Reynolds values and also for the angular velocity of the cylinder inside the gap
A comparison was made between the average Nusselt number and the temperature behavior within the gap with other researchers, and the results showed a good agreement.
