University of Basrah organizes a seminar on renewable energy

The College of Engineering at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium on renewable energy in the presence of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. M. Dr. Rabie Hashem Thajil and his assistants, heads of college departments, college professors and other guests from Basra Governorate, Basra Oil Company, Basra Electricity Directorate, professors from the Oil Institute and other departments.

The symposium started with a lecture given by Assistant Professor Dr. Jawad Radi Al-Ali, entitled Solar Photovoltaic Energy Systems because of their research and industrial importance, which support the directions of the government and the university in this vital field. And the limitations facing solar energy users, in addition to comparing them with other successful experiences. Questions were opened for five minutes.

Then the podium was received by Assistant Professor Dr. Salman Hashem Hammadi, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, and gave his lecture entitled solar thermal energy, which is another application of energy uses as an alternative to gas and oil energy. In general, it was concluded that it is possible to benefit from and apply it, which saves and supplies the current energy, and it is also possible to make use of the fresh water to obtain water for irrigation and drinking water.

Then the teacher, Dr. Wasan Abdul Razzaq, a lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering, gave a lecture entitled Biofuels and how to benefit from recycling oils and fats to obtain alternative sources of energy and reduce environmental pollution.

The Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul-Baqi Ali also delivered a research titled (Estimates of wind energy in the city of Basra), during which the researcher discussed the weakness of the wind speed in the city of Basra and the challenges that face the use of it and the solutions to this weakness and the experiences in the region and how to benefit from it.

Then Engineer Haider Herz Youssef gave a lecture entitled (Reconsidering the philosophy of energy production), during which the researcher presented the world’s experiences in the field of energy and its lack of dependence on the state and the possibility of transferring it to the private sector to supply the network with production and the possibility of employing the unemployed and investment opportunities in it as is the case in countries of the world Referring to the necessity of enacting laws that support these methods.
