Under the auspices of the President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ramzy Salim Ali, the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Iraqi Scientific Society in Mechanics of Soil and Foundation Engineering and the Iraqi Engineers Union / Basra Branch, held a scientific symposium entitled (Geotechnical Problems Facing Oil Projects and infrastructure in the city of Basra). The symposium dealt with three lectures. The first lecture: Improvement of Al- Faw soft soil by deep soil mixed column - presented by Prof. Dr. Haider Saad Al-Jubeir from the College of Engineering / University of Basrah. The second lecture: Impact of oil contamination on the geotechnical properties of soil Presented by Prof. Mahdi Karkoush and Dr. Alaa Dawood from the University of Basrah. The third lecture: Infrastructure in Iraq and the challenges between reality and ambition: obstacles and solutions presented by Dr. Ayad Hamid from Al-Mustafa National University The aim of the symposium is to address the challenges facing the infrastructure sector in the city of Basra, to study the characteristics of the soil according to the requirements of the buildings on which it is built.
