The College of Engineering at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Civil Defense Directorate in Basra Governorate, held an educational lecture on the types of fires and how to combat them. The lecture included concepts and basics of civil defense, types of fires and their causes, methods of using fire extinguishers, and the possibility of eliminating danger in record time, in addition to a detailed explanation of the theory of ignition, focusing on three important points represented by the factors of heat, oxygen, and flammable material, in addition to presenting the safety conditions that must be available in halls, laboratories, and homes. The types of fire extinguishers and how to use and maintain them were also discussed.
The lecture aimed to preserve the safety of students, employees, and teachers, and to preserve the university’s public property by spreading a preventive culture to reduce disasters and accidents and address emergency situations that may occur in classrooms and laboratories.
