A committee from the College of Engineering at the University of Basra participated in the teaching competency test for applicants in engineering sciences.

The committee for testing teaching competency in newly established engineering specializations held its session on Thursday, June 18th, at the Center for Development and Continuing Education in the Bab Al-Zubair Colleges Complex at the University of Basra. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Saleh Issa Khassaf, with the following members: Professor Dr. Ali Ahmed Abdul, Professor Dr. Jaafar Khalaf Ali, Professor Dr. Nada Mohammed Baqir, and Professor Dr. Samaa Abdul Zahra Hamid. The committee tested six applicants for teaching competency at Iraqi universities, representing both public and private colleges in various engineering disciplines.

Each applicant delivered a specialized engineering lecture to demonstrate their teaching abilities and their method of conveying scientific material to students. Following the lecture, the chair and members of the committee provided feedback to each applicant, aiming to enhance their teaching abilities. They discussed the strengths and weaknesses of their presentations, focusing on the key criteria outlined in the updated evaluation form issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. These criteria included the presentation of the subject matter, the use of correct language, self-confidence, the academic content of the material, interaction with students, constructive feedback, and several other factors.

Some applicants successfully passed the test, while others were given a second attempt to address weaknesses in their performance and presentation style, and to consider the recommendations made by the chair and members of the examination committee.
