Student Mustafa Wissam Saleh, student Ali Abdel Hamid Yassin and student Ahmed Hamid Abdel Hussein at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah presented a graduation project entitled (Design and Manufacture of Friction Gearbox) under the supervision of Dr. Dhiaa Jassib Ali and Dr. Ahmed Kadhum Jassim
The project dealt with studying the possibility of designing and manufacturing the friction gearbox from light metal, which is aluminum. Frictional bevel gears and all gearbox parts are made of aluminum and the gearbox housing is made of optical plastic to make it easy to see the gearbox in operation. The gearbox made in this project was transmitted by direct contact or friction between bevel gears. The gearbox has been checked for breakage on the TURNING machine. Different speeds were also applied to know the possibility of shifting the speed with different outputs according to the contact diameter between the gears. And using a range of rotational speeds from 45 to 1000 rpm with a conversion ratio of 1: 1.5, with an efficiency of 64%
The project aims to manufacture a friction gearbox that gives infinite speed within certain limits that depend
on the diameters of the membranes and the diameters of contact and the force of friction.
