In conjunction with the World Smart Cities Day and under the patronage of the President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi
Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ramzy Salim Ali, and in partnership with the University of Al-Maqal, the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah held a symposium entitled (Smart Basrah).
The symposium included two sessions, during which it dealt with the presentation of working papers and research on smart applications for cities in all engineering disciplines.
During the first session, several lectures were presented, including a lecture by Professor Chris Gatwin from the University of Sussex in the UK, entitled Smart Digital Cities، A lecture on smart teaching methods by Assistant Professor Amer Salim Al-Amir, Coordinator of the Ministerial Team for E-Learning, a lecture on sustainable energy by Dr. Salman Hashim Hammadi, a teacher at the College of Engineering, a lecture on the pillars of smart cities for Assistant Professor Dr. Jawad Radhi, a assistant professor at the College of Engineering, a lecture on safe city solutions for Mr. Saif Ali Abid from dahua company
The second session also dealt with the presentation of a lecture by Dr. Hamid Hayab Samir, Head of the Department of Architecture, on general standards for smart cities, A lecture by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Ahmed Abd / Teaching Assistant, Department of Computer Engineering, entitled:
Internet of Things and Blockchain Technologies, a lecture by Ms. Farah Ahmed Diab, a lecturer in the Department of Architecture, entitled Structural Characteristics of the Urban Structure of Smart Cities، a lecture on building information modeling in smart cities by Dr. Ammar Jassim Dakhil, a lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department, a lecture on the vision of future planning for the transformation into a smart city of Basrah for Mrs. Hala Abdel Karim Abdel Ghani, a teacher in the Department of Architecture, A lecture on the smart parking system by Dr. Rahim Khazal, from the College of Engineering
The symposium also included an exhibition of the most important smart technology applied in the College of Engineering, Al-Nabaa Computer Company and Dahua Company.
The symposium came out with several recommendations, including the adoption of an annual conference held by the university in which all are presented; Smart practical applications that are used in smart cities, obligating residential city construction companies to use smart technology for homes, establishing solar power plants with solar tower power plant, using solar energy in distillation operations to obtain clean water for drinking and irrigation purposes.
