The College of Engineering at the University of Basra held a scientific and awareness-raising seminar entitled “Sports as a Lifestyle… Towards Sustainable Health,” in cooperation with the student branch of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), with wide participation from the college’s students.

The seminar addressed the importance of physical activity and its role in promoting physical and mental health, and building a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, especially for university students in light of academic pressures and sedentary lifestyles.

The seminar featured presentations by Captain Mohammed Wasfi Taher and Captain Mohammed Jawad Kadhim, who delivered valuable lectures covering the short- and long-term benefits of sports, their impact on improving physical fitness, increasing focus, and preventing diseases. They also offered practical tips for time management and integrating sports into daily life.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the organizers emphasized the College of Engineering’s commitment to supporting awareness initiatives that contribute to building a well-rounded student personality and promoting health and sports awareness within the university environment.
